Female Infertility

Most couples that engage in unprotected sex regularly are able get pregnant within a period of one year. In the event that pregnancy doesn't happen for a longer period of time, then the couple is said to have infertility issues. Infertility can result from a variety of issues in the male or the females as well. In certain couples, no reason for infertility can be found whereas on the other hand in some couples, more than one reason exists for having Infertility Problems. Ordinary ageing diminishes a female’s ability and capacity to get pregnant. As a female age, ovulation, the process responsible for producing and releasing an egg, becomes less viable and turns too slow. Aging starts to diminish fertility even at the early age of 30. Pregnancy rates are low after age 44.

Causes of Female Infertility

There are certain factors that can lead to infertility in females. Some of them are as follows-

·         Damage to fallopian tubes - The fallopian tubes are responsible for carrying eggs from the ovaries, which produce eggs, to the uterus, where the baby is developed. These tubes can get harmed when scars from the pelvic diseases and infection affect its functioning, endometriosis, and pelvic medical procedure also affect and harm the fallopian tubes. These factors cumulatively can keep sperm from arriving at an egg in the fallopian tube.

·         Hormonal issues and imbalances - One may not be able to get pregnant on the grounds that their body isn't experiencing the typical hormone changes and hormone secretions that lead to the arrival of an egg from the ovary and the thickening of the inner lining of the uterus.

·         Uterine troubles and infections – A female may be suffering from certain diseases that can lead to the development of polyps and fibroids in the uterine canal. The polyps and fibroids can meddle with the proper functioning of the uterus thus causing infertility. Fibroids grow in the lining of the uterus and thus preventing it from getting thick enough to conceive a child.

Symptoms of Female Infertility

One of the major symptoms of female infertility is the inability to get pregnant and conceive a child. Other symptoms of female infertility are as follows-

·         Irregularity in Ovulation, when the periods of the females do not occur regularly then it is called infrequent ovulation this is one of the major indicators of Female Infertility.

·         Bodily factors like eating disorders, rapid weight loss or gain.

·         Hormonal abnormalities are also one of the symptoms of female infertility.

Treatment of Female Infertility

Treatment of female infertility is entirely dependent upon diagnosis and the result of one’s infertility evaluation. Specific factors have specific treatment of infertility. Some of the most commonly used treatment methods are as follows-

·         Fertility Drugs - Infertility might be related with inconsistent or missing ovulation. This can be treated with hormone prescriptions. These are called fertility drugs. All the fertility drugs have potential side effects. Also, these fertility drugs can lead to multiple babies in a single pregnancy. Most fertility medicines should be taken under the supervision of Fertility expert.

·         Surgeries - After treatment with fertility drugs, eggs are now able to travel normally from the ovary into the uterus, through the fallopian tubes. Once in a while medical procedure like surgeries are used to collect the developed eggs after treatment of infertility by fertility drugs. Some of these medical procedures are as follows-

1.    Intrauterine insemination (IUI) It is one of the most commonly used treatment methods of infertility. In this method a catheter of a syringe is used as a means so as to directly inseminate the sperm into the uterus.

2.   In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)- In this method of treating female infertility the eggs that has been invigorated and stimulated by the ovary to be released are collected using certain medical procedures. The eggs and sperm are consolidated in the lab, so as to develop an embryo. Finally, these embryos are then embedded into the uterus. IVF can lead to twins and pregnancies with higher number of children. Also, before performing IVF certain hormone treatments are administered so as to facilitate the process of IVF.
